About Berry Jam Match

Berry Jam Match is a match-3 puzzle set on a kitchen table. Tansy the dormouse is cooking jam, and her 7 by 7 tray is full of strawberries, blueberries, gooseberries, blackberries, apricots and lemons. Every level is an order shown on the wooden shelf: jars to fill with one kind of fruit, sticky splats to wipe off the tray and sugar cubes to crumble.

There is no clock, only a number of moves, so you can take your time. The fun is in setting up bigger matches: they leave behind Jam Jars, Honey Pots and Rainbow Blossoms, and the fruit that tumbles in afterwards can chain into combos worth up to five times the points.

How to play

  1. Swap two neighbouring fruits so that three or more of a kind line up in a row or column. A swap that makes no match slides back and costs no move.
  2. Fill the jars by matching the fruit shown on them; a sparkling golden fruit counts as three. Wipe a splat by clearing the fruit on top of it, and crumble a sugar cube by matching right next to it. From level 10 thick splats need two wipes, and from level 11 sugar comes in double lumps that take two hits.
  3. Match four in a line for a Jam Jar, which clears a whole row or column. Match an L or T shape for a Honey Pot, which bursts a 3 by 3 square. Match five in a line for a Rainbow Blossom: swap it with any fruit to clear every fruit of that kind.
  4. Each fruit is worth 10 points, times up to 5 when falling fruit keeps matching. Finish with moves to spare and the Jam Fiesta turns up to eight of them into Jam Jars that all go off.
  5. Run out of moves and you lose one of three hearts and restart the level with a fresh tray. A heart comes back at levels 6, 11, 16 and so on. The game ends when the last heart is gone.

Controls

Keyboard
Drag a fruit onto its neighbour with the mouse, or click one fruit and then the one beside it. On a keyboard, move the green cursor with the arrow keys or WASD, press Space or Enter to pick the fruit up, then press an arrow to swap it that way.
Touch
Swipe a fruit towards the neighbour you want to swap it with, or tap one fruit and then the one next to it.

Tips

  • Swap two specials with each other for a bigger blast: two Jam Jars clear a row and a column, a Jam Jar with a Honey Pot clears three rows and three columns, and two Rainbow Blossoms clear the whole tray.
  • A sideways swap makes a Jam Jar that clears its row; an up or down swap makes one that clears its column.
  • Matches low on the tray move more fruit, so they are the most likely to start a combo.
